Wyllie Walls...
'Whose
Berlin Burd
faced an absurd
obstacle?
(Which the bird keeked over
and The Wall keeled over.)'
(From 'A Wee Multitude of Questions for George Wyllie' by Liz Lochhead)
In 1988, George Wyllie created a 5m high 'burd' and he took it to Berlin, where he left it keeking over the absurdity that was the Berlin Wall. Not a matter of cause and effect, but a few weeks later the wall came down.
Walls, boundaries, barriers interested him.
In an interesting twist, 'Wyllie Walls' are now appearing in schools across the west of Scotland.
The photo shows...
... the Dalry PS 'Wyllie Wall' at the bottom;
... the Kilbowie PS 'Wyllie Wall' in the middle;
... to the right, Adam Willbound, P4 stands in front of St Fillan's PS 'Wyllie Wall';
... above him is the Hillhead HS Advanced Higher 'Wyllie Wall';
.. to the left Kiaran Foster and Lisa Connelly, Kilbowie stand beside their school's rebuilt 'Wyllie Wall', now at the Mitchell.
So, walls are going up, full of colour and creativity and research and ingenuity.
And walls are coming down, and then going up again at the exhibition, illustrating a shared interest, and the intrigue of the artist...

Seems fitting.
