Sunny Flower
Today’s blip is of a sunflower I have growing in my family garden. Top photo is today around 7:00pm and bottom photo is on Monday before it had opened up! It has a story too... in March my dad brought me a tiny little terracotta pot with a grown your own ‘sunny flower’ seed set. I planted the seeds and they sprouted fairly quickly in the comfort of my bedroom. Now I’m not green fingered at all so silly me thought great I’ll plant them outside. Despite the weather now the start of March was pretty chilly and not the best for sunflowers. My mum a couple of days later saw the sprouted seeds planted in her herb pot and thought ‘yikes weeds are growing’ so she ripped them out and tossed them into the compost. It wasn’t until my dad mentioned that I had planted my sunflower seeds that things clicked in her head that what she had thrown away as weeds where in fact... yes you guessed my sunflower seeds. (All this happened without me knowing until this week.) So she carefully popped them back and out of all the seeds one very short sunflower grew. Despite all the odds against it... minus temperatures when it was planted, being ripped out of its home it flourished. I must say not all well as the sunflowers we have grown before but it’s a little gem. Every time I see it when I eat my breakfast outside it makes me smile :)
Three things I am grateful for:
1) Lovely day at work and the amazing volunteers I work with, especially Eddie! (Just wish I had had a bit more time to chat and spend quality time with them... too much admin/ things to do on the tick list)
2) Next doors cat Milk for greeting me this morning and evening at our back door... she always cheers me up.
3) Despite hardly any sleep last night having enough energy this morning to wake up and get through the day and it not effect my performance. (I’m not good when I’m sleep deprived)
