The Boathouse
Today's the day ............................. 'to begin at the beginning ........'
As the opening line of Dylan Thomas' Under Milkwood says. Although, it wasn't until 1949 - when he was 34 years of age - that Dylan Thomas and his young family moved into the Boathouse at Laugharne, Carmarthenshire in south west Wales.
He converted the wooden garage into a study (see extra) where he found the peace and quiet to write many of his most famous works. He became a regular in the bar of Brown's Hotel in the town and enjoyed many a social night's drinking session with his literary cronies.
He was only 39 when he collapsed and died very suddenly while on a lecturing tour in America in 1953 ............................
