Visiting An Old Friend
We went out for a drive today - the wind moving through the car was nice.
Peebles was our first stop ( to buy pork pies for lunch).
On our random driving about I came across a gate which Dotty (who has been missing from here for far too long) would have made a much better job of.
We ended up at Castlelaw hill fort for lunch.
This is somewhere I used to come and play as a child.
It is an Iron Age structure which is still in pretty good condition.
I was surprised to find it open - and of course I didn't have my wide angle lens with me. But I still took some shots inside. As you can see the stonework has been topped off with concrete (and skylights) to protect the structure and give more of a feel as to how it was when built. It also gives the vandals somewhere to deface without damaging the history.
Below there fort there is an army firing range - which is in better condition now than it was when I was young. In those days you could actually walk over them and pick up spend shell casings and play about in the target mechanism area.
Anyone visiting the fort needs to mind where they are walking - these guys are not great when it comes to toilet habits.
Not sure what all the gubbins on the helicopter was for. Maybe I am now on a list for taking pictures of a military establishment.
We got a surprise visit from Chicken Lady this evening. She was bearing gifts! ….. I got some Welsh beer and SWMBO got some Welsh gin for looking after the hens while she was on holiday.
Can you guess where she went on holiday?
