On Stage

Took the children to see their eldest sister in "Lir's Children " - a play based upon the legend of king Lir and his four children, Aodh, Fionnghuala, Fiachra and Conn, who were turned into swans by his second wife Aoife.
This adaptation draws parallels between the legend and more recent and actual loss of children in Ireland which saw babies and young children taken from their mothers by the Catholic church. Many of these either died or were sold for adoption with mothers rarely ever knowing what happened to their child.
The young actors of Sligo Youth Theatre gave fantastic performances and the play was very powerful and emotional.
