Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2018 Wednesday — Buon Gusto!

We’ve enjoyed a fabulous day of looking, wandering, dining, and doodahing. We’ve been to the top of Monterey to Veteran’s Memorial Park (to walk our dogs) and to the shoreline to see the waves. We’ve enjoyed a nourishing breakfast at the beach resort, later some delicious pastries from the popular French Bakery, and an elegant delicious supper on the deck at Osteria al Mare Restaurant & Bar on Cannery Row overlooking the bay with views of kayakers, the boats, and buildings, and sounds of seals barking.

This is our first vacation since 2012 when we purchased our vacation/retirement house in Cayucos at the southern end of the Big Sur Coast, and because of the house, we haven’t missed vacationing. Most likely this will be categorized as a mini-vacation or a brief getaway.

I would liked to spend an entire day in Carmel, but as we drove through that community yesterday, we were surprised by the feeling of claustrophobia. The residential streets were very narrow and lined with parked cars. Once we arrived in the downtown village area, there were crowds of people on every corner, who all seemed rather lost and clueless, standing at the entrance to crosswalks, but not walking, and causing frustrated drivers (pedestrians have the right of way). Obviously this is the height of vacation season.

We think tomorrow, Thursday, we begin our journey south to return to Cayucos,
