Anglesey Abbey
A National Trust property which Joff recommended for today. We've spent the whole day here....it's been wonderful!
A Jacobean property and was originally an abbey, suffering eventually under Henry VIII. Lord Fairbrother made it his home and furnished it from his vast wealth with a huge art collection and many period pieces. He loved here until his death in 1966 having given the property to the NT in the 40s. All furniture and fittings must remain as he positioned them...as his home.
Beautiful grounds but VERY dry at the moment. We sat in deckchairs in the shade and read our books for a while....more indulgence on a very hot day.
Back to Sawston for another home grown, home cooked meal...and the M11 was practically empty on the journey home.
