Model T Ford in Fort William
A lovely, bright day
Our grandchildren are away at Soul Survivor camp so my wife and I decided to take a trip by coach to Fort William for the day. One of the benefits of the Bus Pass is that this coach company allow us to use the pass so the journey - over 3 hours there and then back - was free. The route took us through stunning scenery and we thoroughly enjoyed the trip.
In the centre of the town is this bronze replica of a model T Ford which, in 1911, was driven to the top of Ben Nevis and back down as a publicity stunt by Henry Alexander Jnr, the son of an Edinburgh Car Dealer. It took 5 days to get it to the top and 1 day to make the descent. This remarkable story can be found here and an old film, recently found, of the descent found here - definitely worth a look.
