Day 205/18. My favourite subject
An afternoon walk along the Itchen Canal this afternoon and I spotted this impressive creature.
I went into dragonfly stealth mode, spotted its perch and captured this shot.
The Golden-ringed Dragonfly is Britains longest dragonfly (75mm or so) that is on the wing from May to September. It is found in West Scotland, Cumbria, Southern England, and Wales. So if you are north of the Thames, bad luck.....
Golden-ringed Dragonflies are voracious predators, feeding on large insects, such as damselflies, other dragonflies, wasps, beetles and bumblebees. They are fast, agile and powerful flyers. Impressive little crtters.
