The Veteran

This one comes courtesy of Joe Rome, a coworker of mine whom I relinquish my camera to because he takes terrific close-ups of everybody. The salty face before you is that of Gary F, perhaps the longest-running high camp employee around these days. He spent 14 years washing dishes at Merced Lake HSC before becoming an all-around handyman of sorts, touring the camps and fixing whatever needs fixing. He also is in charge of the poop--he maintains the composting toilets, which includes bagging up the excess human refuse so that it can be packed down on the mules. His job, at least in certain respects, is not one that I covet. A fascinating character Gary is, and very funny too.
