Waiting for the harvest

I took this image on the edge of a field of spring sown barley. The crop is ripening despite the very dry and hot weather. 

We should all feel some degree of gratitude as food crops mature in the extreme, (for the UK) weather conditions. 

We tend to just expect crops to grow, perhaps this should remind us  of those peoples in the world who live where drought is a regular event together with shortages of food.
