Onsen
Miss H in one of the Ladies' bathing pools. We both had these lovely modesty dresses for wearing in the mixed bathing pools, but they were not required in the ladies' baths. Miss H, as any 18 year old with her mother, was no way going 'au naturale'.
This onsen (hot springs) is in the Japanese Alps, and we went for half board knowing that the local food may not be exactly what we are used to, but decided to take on the adventure. I don't like shellfish, have never really fancied seared tuna, or any other raw fish, not even a smoked salmon fan, but on night one, it just all kept coming, even a whole fish on a stick. We all ate much more than we'd anticipated, and the Hida steak with a potato, carrot and a tasty unidentified vegetable was the saving grace, particularly for Miss H.
Tonight the first food item I saw was 2 giant snails in a dish and this was enough to make Miss H turn a delicate shade of green. I'm glad we experimented but not sure I'll be changing my eating habits, apart from maybe trying seared tuna next time it's on the menu.
