Moturata
At Taieri Mouth the Taieri River runs into the sea. The community at Taieri Beach is a settlement that hasn't changed much. A few fishing boats venture over the bar to go fishing whenever the weather allows. Over the years many have come to grief and lives have been tragically lost.
Nowadays the school that I taught at is still busy. The village is sleepy but loyal.
Today was grey and drizzly. The boats were in, and the island, Moturata, was as distinctive as always.
I think this is a little bit of real New Zealand with rough batches, kids playing safely wherever they choose and everyone looks out for each other.
