Brighton day 3
After another delicious cooked breakfast round the massive dining table Max and Zebedee left around 10 as they’re both working today. Max had a shoot and it turns out that the man works with Gerry Edge’s grandson James (Gerry was my Mum’s partner for the last 10 years of their lives), what a small world.
Sally and Rick left soon afterwards and Rachael, Kevin, Kaitlyn, Alan, Karen, Gulliver and I got cabs with the luggage up to Karen’s who lives near the station and then wandered through the North Laine area of Brighton, vibrant and colourful, over 400 independent shops, restaurants, cafes and entertainment venues as well as residential properties, I love it there, Kevin and Alan had never been, I bought Gulliver Keith Richards autobiography ‘Life’ from a second hand book seller, Rachael bought Kaitlyn the first Pokemon graphic novel from a specialist comic shop.
We crossed the main road and entered The Lanes, this used to be the heart of the fishing village when the town was called Brighthelmstone, a maze of twisting alleyways with antique shops, jewellers, boutiques etc, Rachael had booked us a treat at Choccywoccydoodah for 12.30, we all had cakes and shakes and coffees, cool place!
Then back to the station and home... Gulli, Alan and I got off a Clapham Junction and caught our connection with one minute to spare, back home and Max has glass in his foot and can’t put his heel down, he managed to get some out but there’s still some in there :-(
Gulli went off to see Erin and when Zebedee got back from work Max made Chinese chicken noodles and we watched TV.
It’s been a great weekend.
The day ended with a very sad call from my cousin Sophie to say that her Dad is dying, he’s 84 and has had cancer for several years, his name is David Sharp and he has been married to my Mum’s sister Auntie Bonnie for 58 years :-(. I’ll be calling other family for her tomorrow, she’s taking her daughter down to be with Bonnie in the morning.
