Why we should stay together.

I always find Remembrance Sunday to be totally moving and humbling. The ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall and then the actual ceremony of Remembrance at the cenotaph are carried out simply , competently, movingly. The benefit of having a monarch who is above politics never seems more sensible. It's one of the reasons I will not vote yes to independence in 2014. I love being Scottish I feel Scottish. When we lived in London I always longed for the day we would go 'home' to stay. Devolution has been the sensible way to deal with our national interests. I want to be British as well. I like being British. I feel British. Scottish soldiers have always been an important part of the British army. The sharing of national pride and grief led by the queen reminds us of all we have shared and all we have in common. My grandfather survived the Somme and lived into his eighties. I wish I had been older and could have talked to him about his experiences. When you look at the truly appalling experiences of most soldiers in the Great War you cannot be anything but grateful for their courage and stoicism.
