More butterflies

This butterfly was determined to be photographed, sitting for a fair time with its wings open on a pile of weeds I had put together whilst gardening. And even better I knew what it was because we get them in the UK.
Butterflies are never as simple as you think - actually we get something like it. The good news was unlike Blues or Skippers there was only one page in my butterfly book of Gatekeepers. Even more surprising it was quite straightforward to identify it as a Southern Gatekeeper. As any fool knows, they don't have a spot on the hind wing and the orange follows the veins through the brown patch on the upperwing - duuh.. And it is a male.
Best bit of the lot was it even mentioned the Ardeche as part, indeed the most northerly part, of its range. Pyronia cecilia for those who like things latin.
