Portobello Promenade (Joppa Pumping Station)
So there I was, half asleep with a cup of tea, lying in the half light of the early morning, listening to the gentle hiss of traffic on the wet streets as they headed to work. The first day of the holidays; and no plans, but lots to do.
I idly flicked through the social media on the phone; and somehow stumbled across an interesting genre on instagram. Edinburgh grafitti; and a subset of hashtags for CigsEdinburgh. My thumb got to work; and I flicked through the photos there. A lot from Shrubhill and Shrub House - all now long gone. Some under pass ones I missed, and plenty I know / have blipped. But one or two that I can see that I've never checked out. Hmmmm....
Anyway, I did the dishes and left as the rain had eased off; down to Princes Street to seek out socks and shoes and candles. A potter about, camera in hand as I went from emporium to emporium. And then thinking I might take a devious route home; and see if the unblipped Cigs might still be there. Off down London Road, Portobello Road, Portobello High Street and to the far end of the prom; a bunch of kids from a nearby nursery playing under the gazebo; singing, hopping, yelling, laughing.
I nearly joined them when I spotted the Cigs WAS still there! So I set about photographing it. Job done, I wandered to the other end of the building. Fuck me is there not one on a container along the road! I've cycled past it a million times and becuase today I walked onthe pavement, I finally spot it! Cigs definitely moves in mysterious ways.
