To the Vltava

Before the arrival of Vasily Petrenko at the Liverpool Philharmonic we had 2 Czech Principal Conductors, Libor Pesek and Petr Altrichter and were treated to some memorable evenings of music by composers from their home country. Smetana's Ma Vast has long been one of my favourites, and I Was excited to reach the town of Melnik where the river Vltava joins the Elbe. From here we were to leave the Elbe and follow the river Vltava down to Prague.
