Lest we forget
Remembrance Day at Minsmere.
Like jagged teeth or crooked tombstones they stretch along the dunes.
Placed decades ago to repel invaders who never came.
Now silent witnesses to the futility of war on this Armistice Day.
These monuments in stone and concrete punctuate the landscape, reminders of a past worth fighting for.
And still our youth return maimed and damaged, their humanity forever dashed to pieces in some corner of a foreign field.
Lest we forget they say.
Forget what exactly?
