Waiting

What did people who were waiting for the ferry do before tablets or cell phones?  
I slipped on gravel and fell on my walk today.  A car stopped but I waved to let them know I was okay.  I soldiered on, as one does, took a few photos, picked up a paper, and walked a couple of kilometres back to the car.  I've ended up with a sprained ankle and badly bruised foot, a bruise at the base of my thumb and up the inside of my wrist, and bruises and cuts on both knees.  All I was concerned about?  Was the camera damaged and did I rip my almost-new walking pants?  No on both counts.  And on the positive side, I didn't roll down the hill or fall into the road, either possible on the narrow path.  :)
