Runde

Overnight the haar came in from the west and enveloped the hills, giving a damp start. We decided to go to Runde, the southernmost seabird cliff in Norway to see what was what. It’s fairly non-descript as seabird colonies go with gannets, guillemots, kittiwakes and bonxies (great skuas). However there are also sea eagles that live there and that made it much more exciting. The blip is a rather poor composite of shots, cropped so they are uneven in size. The sea eagles were 2 immature birds just flying for fun it seemed, and they did this turning upside down flying. The rest are shots of a puffin standing outside its burrow after feeding its chick. There were a number of people at the ‘official’ puffin viewing point, but only a couple of us could see it as it was tucked into the cliff. Guys with fabulous cameras and lenses that I envied missed out. As a sea bird location it was good, but in the Forth we have the Isle of May and the Bass Rock that are way better.
