Wicker Man
Had a walk round Aberdeenshire's Archaeolink Prehistory Theme Park again today. The place is surprisingly undamaged despite having been abandoned by the Picts some 18 months ago. One of the plate glass entrance doors has been smashed and it is a bit overgrown but in essence it is still recognisable. The Roman marching camp is still there as is the Stone Circle. The Iron Age Roundhouse and Hunter-Gatherer Encampment remain as does the scaffold where the council staff burnt the Wicker Man.
In the distance and between the legs of the charred scaffold you may be able to make out the Hill of Dunnideer, a genuine survivor from past ages (c.1260. Weather-beaten rectangular tower, partly built from the remains of the prehistoric vitrified fort in which it stands. Possibly the earliest tower-house on the Scottish mainland - Ian Shepherd) and with a significantly more important history.
On this Remembrance Sunday I walked with a friend on the site. Aside from us, there was a dad and his young son, some rabbits and a few deer.
