Friends
Our last day in Dahab, and we have a few hours to kill before heading to the airport. MrsCyclops and I had a long lazy lunch at "Friends", including an epic mixed fruit juice cocktail.
This is our sixth visit to Dahab (the first was in 2005) and the restaurants on the seafront have slowly evolved. The sandy floors have been concreted over. Cushions on the ground have been replaced by benches.
I like Friends particularly because the candles are still in old plastic water bottles filled with sand, and the plate still has a candle shielded from the wind by an onion skin on it! Brilliant. The others have more electric light and fancy candle holders now.
It was interesting being in Egypt after revolution. Nothing really seems to have changed which is good in some ways but seems like a missed opportunity in others. The place was quiet, as people are staying away due to the recession and fears about the stability of the country post-revolution. All I can say is we had a lovely week and saw no reason for people to stay away... Dahab has suffered before (not least after a terrorist bombing there in 2006) and always seems to bounce back. I hope that we'll see it bounce back again soon.
Thanks to Red Sea Relax for a wonderful week - the accomodation was good and the diving was amazing. We'll be back!
