Memorial Cairn to 5 Lost Airmen

On 14th December, 1942 a Vickers Wellington X3707 Bomber crash landed on the former Happy Valley Allotments, beside the Union Canal, Craiglockhart, Edinburgh, Scotland. The plane developed engine failure, hitting the Allan Park Bridge (now a footbridge) as it came down. The plane burst into flames killing the 5 airmen on board, 4 British and 1 American.

Who tragically lost their lives when their

1942"

Erected by Craiglockhart Community Council with support from the City of
Edinburgh South West Neighbourhood Partnership

Members of the local community and families of the 5 lost airmen met together to unveil a Memorial Cairn at 15.00 on Armistice Day, 11th November, 2012 at the junction between the footpath to the Allan Park Bridge and Craiglockhart Gardens (half way along Craiglockhart Road North where it is barricaded against through traffic) Edinburgh, Scotland, near the crash site.
