Small Tortoiseshell

I gave up trying to photograph the butterfly while it was flitting from flower to flower and then just as I was about to move on the butterfly settled on the gravel just in front of me and there it remained and posed just long enough for a quick blip.

L and I had a VERY long walk this morning ... for those of you who are younger, fitter and have no arthritic joints 5 miles is nothing but with L's bad knee and my dicky ankles it felt like a marathon! Had I been allowed to rid my bike we would have cycled .... that's a definite for next time!
