Greater love..

World War 1 poet - Wilfred Owen - while in hospital at Craiglockhart just along the road from where I live - suffering from shellshock, wrote in a letter home: "Greater Love hath no man than this. Is it spoken in English only, and in French. I do not think so...."

In our church we have a tradition that the gospel from John on Remembrance Sunday is always read in English, then in French, and then in German - by native speakers. This morning the third reading was by Daniela, a young German woman, heavily pregnant with the promise of new life! So much to say there....
