Deschamps on the box
A lunchtime meet up with the son, now biding in some palatial residence near Cramond. I was whistled up to provide some suitable clothes, so we had an enjoyable traipse round the charity shops of Newington.
Then time to head over to AJ’s garret with a few beers to catch the World Cup final - France v Croatia. I’ve got to say Croatia and Modric in particular were quite superb and it was gutting when they went 2-1 down. A typical Griezmann dive winning a free kick and a dubious penalty thanks to VAR. If that had been how it stayed, then Croatia would have been "rightly aggrieved" but there was no disputing the class of the next couple of French goals. Fair play to Croatia though - they never gave up and at 4-2 down they were still chasing the goal that would have set up a "grandstand finish."
At least Modric won the golden boot as player of the tournament. And what a great tournament it has been, with a final which encapsulated the lot. And I’m sure I’d think that even if we hadn’t tanned AJ’s Highland Park.
