Time with My Nephew
I met my sister's husband and son at the PSU Farmers Market this morning. She had asked for a quiet weekend up there at OHSU. It was a pretty emotional and tiring week of a lot of visitors, her son, Alan, coming home at last, and the end-of-life choices to make. Basically, she has opted to stay in the hospital as long as possible. A good choice for pain management.
After the Market, Alan and I took a walk while Gery went to be with Becky.
We walked to Powell's and checked out the rare book room. That's where I spotted this Willa Cather book, one of Becky's favorite authors.
Then we continued along the waterfront having a really good time talking. I hadn't seen him for years and loved listening to him and seeing him. I saw so many family resemblances, unexpected ones. We avoided religion and politics which would not have been good to talk about right now, if ever. By the time we reached the Tilikum Crossing Bridge I was way over heated, even with the water and the hat, so I caught a bus home while he continued on, making his way up to the hospital to be with his mother.
