Chalkhill Blue
This afternoon I managed to walk both my heathland and my woodland butterfly recording transects. Gatekeepers have finally overtaken meadow brown as the most numerous species at both sites. A smattering of white admirals, silver washed fritiillary and a first recording of purple hairstreak on the heathland site (coming off the oak trees that lie on the eastern boundary) made it interesting. The chalkhill blue was on my morning dog walk, hundreds of them around now on the South Downs.
