Seashore Sand Dollar

I didn't take many pictures today. 209 to be exact. It seemed that wherever we went...there wasn't much action. Except at the garage sales.

Some of these people down here need to learn how to put on a garage sale. My 3 sisters would have laughed, and my one sister would have snorted.

How can you advertise a subdivision garage sale, and have 6 houses participating? One house had a dining room table with 4 chairs, and 2 pictures. "YOU CALL THAT A SALE?" Another had paperback books priced at 3 dollars a book! Most are 25 or 50 cents.

We ended up at a small craft sale, and an antique flea market. The flea market was run by a local group of pirates. Not the steal-your-boat kind, but the kind that just walk around saying..."AAARRRGGGHHH!!!" They do some good things on the island we visit...but they could have had a few more wenches at the sale today. They had a food booth set up with hamburgers, scalawag dogs, and sweet corn. How much was the pirates sweet corn...you might ask? A BUCK-AN-EAR!!! That joke just never gets old.

Antiques are funny things. One persons "find" is another persons piece of crap junk. It always makes me wonder where they find all the stuff.

About todays background subject. Last year I found a medium-sized sand dollar while I was shelling. Maybe only 3 inches across, but a real beauty. I didn't want to mix it in with my other shells, because they are very fragile. Instead I put it carefully in my back pocket.

I walked a long stretch of beach, and decided to take the free trolley back to my car. I jumped on, and took the first available seat. SMASH!!! (It was a good thing I put that sand dollar in a safe place.) Now...the dollar was worthless.

Speaking of sand...I think tomorrow we are going to a sand sculpture contest. Not the pail and a plastic shovel kind...but the pros. Maybe I'll post my favorite one.

A few other pictures are on my Flickr page...if you want to have a look see.
