Spring flowers

In July? Even August would seem a more usual time for these Paperwhites to be flowering. A member of the daffodil family, its botanical name is Narcissus Papyraceus. Often grown as a house plant (? in pots) this clump was on a part of the land between Mother-in-law's house and the cliff edge. In this position the bulbs are exposed to the ambient temperature. However, I did read that (in the northern hemisphere) they are often forced to flower for Christmas.

So July (in this part of the world that is equivalent to January in the other hemisphere) may not be that inappropriate for them to flower.

I took this photo as I walked via the connecting steps from the beach house to visit m-i-l who has had a difficult week, with periods of what sounds like marked hypotension. Yesterday, the home care worker insisted and called an ambulance. By the time they got to her she was improving and nothing was found of major concern. She declined their offer of a one hour ride to the hospital, and even more vociferously disagreed with the suggestion of going into a rest home. Staunchly independent, she intends staying in her own home.

This is our usual weekend to stay here, following on for the Friday of not working. I'm hoping that this is just one more of the hiccups she has been having
