Newquay
Our layby on the A14 just outside Kettering had seemed noisy at 10pm last night, but we all managed to sleep. We woke at 6 to find a lorry parked inches from the back of the caravan. As we had only just squeezed into this layby ourselves, behind a row of lorries, it seems amazing we didn't hear him arrive. I'm not sure how he fitted in, but I'm just glad he stopped!!
We had a quick fast food breakfast (prepacked croissants and a carton of oj) and were on the road by 6.20. We drove until 8.30 and then stopped for a proper breakfast and cuppa at a motorway service station. On again for a couple more hours, then a coffee stop. This time in the caravan. The roads were reasonably busy but flowing traffic and we were so close to Trewan Hall we didn't bother to stop an route for lunch. Instead we arrived at the site, pitched and had lunch. On the drive down we came through heavy rain, but on arrival it was hot and remained like it for the rest of the day.
Once the awning was up, we settled down to relax for a couple of hours. We had to squeeze into the shade!!! We had the choice of pitches to locate the caravan, but decided we wanted sun. I think we've chosen well. The site is just opening everything up as it enters peak season, but it is all lovely.
At 5.30 we drove into Newquay to find somewhere to eat. We parked in the high street. It isn't a particularly attractive high street, but we found a hotel with a restaurant which overlooked the bay, and we found a table by the window. Although I'm looking into the sun, this was the view. It was very bright. We had a lovely meal then walked back along the high street. Did a little bit of food shopping in Aldi then found a traditional Cornish sweet/fudge/chocolate shop who sold ice creams, so a perfect pudding. We were warned to watch out for the seagulls by the shop keeper, and again by a couple as we left the shop. We ate our ice creams very quickly!
Drove back to the site via the coast road and spotted a lovely bay we said we will visit if the weather stays nice.
All good so far. Headache isn't spoiling it too much. Fingers crossed it will go soon.
