Lathyrus Odoratus

Marbled White

I went on a fruitless search for the Grayling  at Deep Dene, a remote site on the South Downs. Nothing doing. The Grayling is the rarest butterfly in Sussex and is only found at this one site. It is unique - the only Grayling colony on chalk in Britain but fears are that it has been lost. I've volunteered to join a programme of fieldwork to try and find it and to establish what has gone wrong. So to cheer myself up I continued on to Birling Gap for a butterfly-filled walk around to Beachy Head - marbled whites, dark green fritiillary, ringlets, skippers, gatekeepers, meadow browns and more chalk hill blues than you could wave a stick at
