Faster Than A Speeding Bullet

Super Snail was making his way up my office window this morning, (reminding me of the valiant little raccoon who made national news recently by successfully scaling a skyscraper in Minneapolis for reasons known only to him).  I rescued the snail and placed him gently in a much friendlier spot and took a couple of quick pictures.  I was interrupted and planned to get back to the snail photo shoot but when I went back about 30 minutes later, he was gone.  I mean gone.  He was nowhere to be seen.  I wouldn't have expected him to get more than a couple feet away from where I left him.  Surprise.  Either he was the fastest snail on the planet or a bird got him.  Even though I looked everywhere, I hope he's just hiding under the one leaf I forgot to check.
