The Dead Centre

On the way back from Rieti today, we stopped at Cottanelo to visit the cemetery. Italian cemeteries are fascinating and so different from Scottish ones. Invariably located with a commanding view across the commune, the iconography tends to be celebratory and lacks the morbid doom and gloom of calvinism. Photographs of the deceased,and eternal flames rather than the skull and cross bones and latin inscriptions.
