It's So Loud

Our flight last night took us over Sweden, Finland, USSR and down past the east of North/South Korea to Tokyo arriving at 11am local time (8 hours ahead). Despite several weeks of heat training at home, the 31 degrees heat still hit us as we stepped off the plane.

After exchanging our vouchers for rail passes we boarded the fancy Narita Express - I am looking forward to the trains! We didn't hit the fresh air until we got out of the station, so this square in the Shimbashi district (in daylight at 1pm) was a sensory overload... all these advertising displays showing videos were also playing sound too... I am sure I have seen that in movies set in the future.. Bladerunner?

Anyway, after checking in at the hotel and a drink on the top floor we had a sleep for 3 hours - it was supposed to be one hour! Refreshed we headed back into the city for dinner. We played it safe first night... and went to a Japanese Italian restaurant... although when we ordered bread but received plates of fish, prawns, mushrooms and cheese, we realised we had pointed at the wrong item! But it did have some bread!

Off south tomorrow, looking forward to this sleep...
