Wet, Wet, Descent to Civilisation!

It is not surprising that we were the only people in this remote hut at almost 3,000m. The descent down the Kanderfirn Glacier to the valley and a little village called Selden, was 1,500m. All of that we did in various types of rain: hard, soft, driving. The glacial debris when we finally got off the glacier was very unstable and the path had washed away in several places. The torrents that had been swollen by the rain were very “interesting”to cross! It was great to see the tiny and rare, alpine salamanders (see extra), taking advantage of this very wet day when we got down to the meadows. A great lunch followed (our wet clothes steaming in the little restaurant at Selden) to celebrate our return to civilisation. We caught a bus back to Kandersteg, where we said goodbye till next year, to Geoff and Peter.

P.S. I only took 4 photos today!

Always glad to be home. I suspect that I won’t have much time to return to your journals for a little while, meanwhile have a great weekend.
