Save The Grass!
With the continuing heatwave the gardens are really suffering, even the grass.
A week ago Marlane had the idea that putting up the 6x3m gazebo would shade the lawn and help prevent the grass from getting so burned.
The shade is helping, and any water gathered in the kitchen and utility bowls gets thrown onto the lawn.
The water barrel ran out this afternoon and that is what's been used to water some areas of the garden including the little, ground level, water bowl that enables the hedgehog, mice and anything else small to get a drink. The bird bath gets priority, the poor birds are starving so water and food is essential. Even when we are sitting in the garden the sparrows, blackbirds and pigeons come down very close to us looking for food. Had to fill up the Sunflower hearts and Peanut feeder today. We also have a solid feeder which the sparrows seem to love, it's like solid peanut butter.
Extra shading supplied to the very vulnerable hydrangea!
