Bird Heaven
We left home at 6 a.m. to attempt to beat morning rush hour traffic through Toronto. For the most part, it worked fine and we arrived in Niagara Falls shortly after 8 a.m.
What a day! When we arrived, it was already feeling like 35 C and rose to the mid 40's with the humidex. On the plus side, that meant fewer tourists so not the crowds that make all tourist locations a little claustrophobic!
The highlight was going to Bird Kingdom - I felt I was in Heaven!! So many birds flying free and not paying much attention to humans like me! The aviary was 6 stories high with plenty of space to fly and greenery to hide in if they so wished. As well, there were boxes for various birds. We did see a Collared Dove sitting on an egg and some exotic turkey had poults! It was completely amazing! Many of the birds were 'rescued' or adopted for various reasons. There was even a 15 year old owl, who was by herself in a special enclosure as she had lost her mate last year and was nearly blind....so to protect her, they did not want to disrupt her habitat. I could go on and on, but I must get to bed as I drove home through a huge storm with torrential downpours.
Goodnight, all. Have not yet had the time to read or view anything today. Take care...
