Making Fire
Today I accompanied Amy's year to Hampton Court. One of the main topics for year 5 is the Tudors, and Hampton Court is an obvious trip, especially considering how close we live to it!
It was an enjoyable day but probably the most tiring school trip I have been on... and I've been on a few! The children were very excited (energetic!), there was so much to see, so many other schools there and each adult was given a group of children to make sure that they covered everything in their topic booklets. Quite a responsibility!
Before lunch we went on a Kitchen Workshop which I really enjoyed. The two leaders were dressed in full Tudor costume and were very informative, as well as entertaining. This shot shows them explaining to the children how the Tudors made fire... flintstone, steel, charcoal cloth and a ball of wood shavings. The children didn't think he would make fire but as you can see he did!
