Amazing poppies
These are poppies. Unbelievable poppies! Came across them in the students’ Gardens in Edinburgh Botanical Gardens today and yes, I was sure I’d remember what they were called and now I’ve forgotten. All I remember is that they’re a fairly new variety, and that the many petals unfold from a fairly normal head.
This part of the Gardens has an amazingly soporific effect on a day like this: I found myself quoting Keats - “a drowsy numbness pains my sense, as though of hemlock I had drunk /One moment past, and Lethewards had sunk..”
Enough. It’s getting late, and drowsy numbness is the norm rather than the exception.
