A true French Classic.
Back Blip. Sunday 1st July.
After our wonderful and relaxing stop over at La Marande, Montbellet, we drove over the Maconnais hills to Cluny.
( see map)
Lovely old town with a very interesting Abbey.
We just had a quick walk round, and came across a car rally in the square.
Mr C was interested in the Aston Martin. (The one James Bond used to drive). but this was what took my eye.
I loved the old Maigret series, and of course this was the car he used to drive.
A Citron Traction Avant. Front wheel drive. Designed by Andre Lefebvre and Flaminio Bertoni in late 1933/34. ( hope I’ve got that right!)
Lovely backdrop of the Abbey too.
Before joining the motorway at Nuit St George, we had a nice drive through Burgundy along the D981. Such a pretty route and much more relaxing than the A6 especially on a very hot day with temperatures up to 35C.
We reached our last overnight stop at Valerie’s. ( yes another Val!). about 5pm.
A tiny village called Clamanges, near Chalons - en - Champagne. ( Recommend in Alistair Sawday’s French B&Bs)
Valerie welcomed us with a nice cool drink.
We have stayed here about 8 times and this has been the hottest.
Nice to have a shower and relax before dinner, when we were joined by a lovely Scottish family with two young children, also stopping for the night. They however were just setting off on holiday to visit relatives in Turin.
So our last night and their first.
