Lifeline
He walked away from the tent looking at his hand - trying to see what the palm reader had seen and described to him. The old woman’s predictions would all turn out to be correct. They always were. The thing was, she wasn’t predicting the future - describing what was always going to happen anyway. It was both simpler and more complicated than that. What she was doing was isolating just one of countless possible futures. And by identifying that one future she somehow ensured that it was the one that would come to pass.
