The End of an Era
One of the long-standing cafes in our barrio seems to be closing down :-( We met a neighbour from our passageway and he asked us if we knew anything. We didn't. When we all walked past together, it had a sign on the door saying 'closed for holidays', but August is the holiday month here and in all the 20 years we've been in this barrio, it's only reduced its summer opening hours, never closed completely. When we walked back past it again, those guys were loading their van with all the furniture, fixtures and fittings. There was a lady supervising it all who revealed it wouldn't be opening again. Bb has spent many hours working in this cafe - coaching work and writing work. We knew it when it was called Helios and a book shop and newsagent; Helios as a cafe that sold newspapers and books; l"Sarah's cafe selling newspapers; and finally l'Sarah's only as a cafe. It was also where I took my 'Stranger' shot; and it was the owner Helios himself. Anyway, something hasn't worked sadly and we only hope that someone sees the potential of the big, light corner location as we don't want to see it empty for years. Bye bye Helios (and you'll always be Helios to us). It's been great knowing you.
