Lac des Bouillouses

Today we drove up into the mountains above Mont Louis to Lac des Bouillouses, a wonderful lake some 2050m above sea level.  A lovely day some eight degrees lover than down in Prades.

Glorious walk past cows and horses to the Boucle de la Pradella (a smaller lake) and back for a light lunch and to watch a very amusing standoff!

It's such a wonderful place to be.  You arrive at the car par to see loads of cars, and then see about six or seven people when you are walking.  

In August cars are not permitted to drive up to the Barrage, so for a day's visit you have to rely on a shuttle bus some 10km away.  However, if you stay the night in one of the two auberges, you can drive up, and being there in the late evening, standing on the shore of the lake looking at the stars, is a wonderful experience
