An experiment ...

So, I wanted to get some idea about the differences between two setups that I have, so I created this totally unscientific and uncontrolled test to learn very little in reality, but heck, it was fun ...

One half of the image is taken using a Nikon Df full frame DSLR with new Nikon 28-300mm lens and auto focus, the other half is taken with an Fujifilm X-T2 crop sensor mirrorless camera with an old Helios 44-2 58mm on a focal reducer - both were shot at f/5.6 and ISO 200 ( as it was the first common aperture between them both, and the lowest that the Fuji could manage on the dial ! ) and then aligned in Photoshop ( as the Nikon shot is only 16mp compared to the Fuji's 24mp, some scaling was required ) then they were converted to B&W with Nik Silver Efex Pro.

For the record I judged the focal length on the zoom by eye and got 62mm compared to the Helios' 58mm - I'm quite proud of that !

In some respects I'm not overly surprised by the results - the Df has a better dynamic range - having achieved a better black and a better white and everything in between, and the new glass & auto-focus has it a bit sharper. I have to say though, I don't think that there is all that much difference there, and certainly nothing that couldn't be sorted out I think with a little post processing ...

Anyhoo, the actual location is a cafe at the top of the new Westgate Shopping Centre in Oxford, I've spent a fair bit of time working from here today while child smallest visited the cinema and had some lunch with friends ...

Got a surprisingly large amount of work done !

Oh, and if you haven't figured it out - Fuji on the left, Nikon on the right ;-)

And also, extra, lest we forget that we are all different, just like everyone else ...
