Sweets for the Sweet.............

..................Now is the time when the Sugar Beet are lifted and the traffic is slowed by the tractors that take it from the fields and taken to either short term storage or to the factories. The first Sugar Beet factory was in Prussia in 1801 and the original form contained only 4% sugar - breeding has lifted this to 20%. The green tops and the other residue is used in animal feedstuff.
It is difficult to imagine, looking at this unpreposessing pile of dirty roots in this muddy yard that in a short time you could be sprinkling a glistening spoonful of it's product onto your porridge or into your tea or coffee!

Weather at first very bright - now overcast - seems to be the pattern at the moment.
