A Guilty Pleasure

There is a very low brow programme on the BBC of a morning. “Homes under the Hammer”. It is repetitive, inane and provides nothing that will improve your life experience as you head inevitably for the grave, but being the BBC it at least has none of the relentless adverts as on other channels. The programme is also strangely absorbing and compelling while munching a late breakfast croissant. They film the linking bits to camera from a variety of stately homes and such like. Today it featured Drummond Castle Gardens, which I had never heard of before, so being the hottest day of the year so far we hastily rustled a picnic and off we sped.

I'm not really a fan of formal regency gardens but this one is stunning. Full credit to the gardeners, Tim, David, Steve, Jack, Jan and Gordon. Nice woodland walks too and also pet friendly. On the downside there is no cafe and you can't get into the castle, although they have a fridge with cold drinks. Try nearby Auchterarder which boasts maybe half a dozen fine looking cafes

The weather was scorching (27 degrees) and not a breath of wind, by the end of the day I suspect I smelled like the inside of a tramp's hat.

Great day out.
