Exploring

Went for a walk into what they call the tourist area of Funchal, no beaches here but plenty of ‘lidos’ - concreted jetty’s with swimming pools and sun bathing areas - most also have access to the sea, either by diving in or steps going down, the sea looked quite calm but we weren’t tempted. At the end of the walk we spotted this restaurant at the foot of the cliffs. It was quite a trek going down (and even worse getting back up) but the fresh tuna salad and cold beer made it worthwhile.
Out for a steak tonight on the harbour front. Every Saturday in June they have a firework display in the marina - the best of the weekly displays winning the prestigious honour of being responsible for the New Year’s Eve celebration. Judging by last night the competition will be tough!
