Isle of Bute, Firth of Clyde

The Firth of Clyde has some of the most wonderful islands in Scotland, and today our club visited one of them for a walk.  We took the ferry from Wemyss Bay to Rothesay and our coach then took us to Kilchattan Bay, where we started our walk along the coast on the 'West Island Way'.  Hard going, some of the paths were very tough, rocky and a lot of care needed, but we made it along to the Rubh'an Lighthouse, and walked across the bay then up to St. Blane's Church ruins, passing Loch-na-Leighe on the way.

Had a spot of lunch at the ruins, and had a good look around.  There is a stone which is reputed to be a Viking gravestone, very interesting.  Also noted that women were only allowed to be buried in the lower graveyard, the top one reserved for men only!!!

From the Church we headed uphill, through a field of cows complete with their bull, not a comfortable thing to do I have to say, and some superb views at the top of the hill.  Downhill then and through a forest and back to Kilchattan Bay, where two volunteers from the club laid on a BBQ for us.

And we all had our little bottles of wine!!!

Back to the ferry and a lovely half hour sail back to the mainland and home.

And the sun shone all day!
